breaking ground

Almost two years after we found and bought our five acres in the San Luis Valley, we broke ground today with the help of a rented bobcat and a whole lot of cool sunshine. Today’s project was the driveway - a nearly 300-foot stretch of winding dirt road ending in a circle - and in just under three hours we got it excavated and roughed-in from top to bottom. Tomorrow we go back and level and smooth it off into a finished driveway.

subsisting on taquitos

We’re in. The 26′ truck, by no small feat, is emptied and returned and we’ve got an oasis of desks set up in the middle of mess and chaos because Monday waits for no one.

Our moving crew (Ryan and three of his friends) wimped out on us halfway through Saturday, so we sent their sorry selves away and Shane and Sarah and I finished everything. That girl is a nonstop arc of energy. She worked from Friday night through Sunday night - waving off our suggestions for a break or a nap or a movie - and just plowed away until the job was done. Even when Shane and I were near passing-out on the two couches we’d just brought in, Sarah was a constant blur back and forth through the door with box after box.

She’s up bright and early again this morning, feeding the cats, letting the dogs out and wondering what boxes to start putting away first. Meanwhile, Shane and I sit here with bad posture groaning and drooling and blinking.

QOTD

“… though I do have to say, I was impressed by the level of tact
and diplomacy with which you chewed my ass.”

- a publisher, yesterday, in response to my message about his message
