Pssst.
Hey you.

Yeah, you. The intrepid traveler. The fearless adventurer. The incurable explorer. The Wily Wanderer. The, errr, armchair warrior who reads Adventure Journalist because, mark your words, you are one day going to be all of those things! Just as soon as you break free from the evil forces of The Cubicle. Yes! I’m talking to you.

KEEN, makers of durable footwear beloved by foot-powered adventurers everywhere, is sponsoring a week-long blog contest to kick off the launch of its new web site. From today through Saturday, December 13, you can enter here on Adventure Journalist to win the pair of KEEN footwear of your choice. The rules are easy:

1. Visit KEEN’s new web site at http://www.keenfootwear.com
2. Look around and choose your favorite product from the web site
3. Come back here to this entry and write a comment about your choice
4. Wait in goose-pimply anticipation for Sunday morning when I announce the winner

That’s it! The winner will be selected at random (a comment number drawing), and gets to choose the prize of any product on KEEN’s new web site. Be sure to check back here on Sunday to see if you’ve won!

As a bonus, KEEN is offering all Adventure Journalist readers free shipping on any product ordered from the KEEN web site between now and December 13. Just pick out your stuff, then enter the code ADVENTUREBLOG during checkout for your free shipping credit.

Ready, set? GO.

Having trouble choosing? My favorite picks for winter/spring are the Kid’s TALLINN boot, the Women’s PALERMO boot and the Men’s Oregon PCT trail hiker (all pictured above).

Just don’t forget to come back and comment on your favorite stuff, or you won’t win!

Awesome contest! It’s touch choosing, but I like the Palermo Mary Jane (and the Oswego bag, too, actually). And can I just say that the armchair warrior line made me howl? Because it did. It really did.

This was tough because I need light hiking boots but thinking practically, I am going with an indoor shoe that will be suitable for library adventuring. I think the Saratoga II would be great for all the journeys I can take by wandering through the stacks.

I meant “tough choosing”. Why is it that I only see my typos after I’ve hit the Submit Comment button?

Ooooh, cool! Ok, my favorite is the Calistoga Mary Jane in Seal Brown. For our road tripping lifestyle, this is the perfect shoe that I can wear either hiking around town or going to dinner somewhere nice. And I currently don’t have anything this versatile either. Oooooh, I hope I win!

Dude. I bought my first pair of Keen boots this year, and have WORN. THEM. OUT. I took them with me on every trip I made that even had the smallest possibility of having cool weather. They’re awesome.

My favourite pair on the new site, however, is the Winthrop boot. I’m pretty sure I have a few trips planned to cool-weather sites in ‘09. ;-)

    Awesome contest!

They’ve got a great site! (leave it to me to zone in on the UI before getting around to the actual comment. :-) )

I looked around and there was a lot there that I liked. But it was the Voyageur Mid boot in Drizzle/Surf Spray that appealed to me most. (and what cool names they have for the color schemes)

Perfect boot for trekking through the Pac NW forests, my favorite desert landscapes, and dodging falling pinecones. :-)

Ah for me, the beachcomber, hiker, sometimes couch potato, I love the sandal http://www.keenfootwear.com/product.aspx?p=588&pc=1643. I love my chacos, but to keep my toesies protected would be great for those blind wades in the water – you never know when a horseshoe crab or worse yet, a jetty is going to poke out of the water. And they are perfect for the stop at the Crab Shack on the way home or for those rare, but beautiful opportunities when I get to the mountains and can dip my toes in the cool streams.

Hey Ho! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I love their shoes , hard to choose. BUT I am thinking those Genoapeak WPs would great for that trek across Northern Spain I’m gonna do:)

I’ve had 2 pair of Keen shoes so far and love them; thinking those Targhee II Mid boots might go well for hiking with my broken ankle. ;)

What a great contest! Thanks for the opportunity!

I always wanted a pair of Keens…cool contest!
I like so many it really is hard to choose. My top three are:
    Voyageur
    Betty Boot
    Shay boot

And since I can only pick one I suppose it will have to be Voyageur in walnut/rust.

Our whole family loves Keens! My wife is looking for some winter boots, and the Vail Boot in Moonbeam/Blackberry Wine look perfect!

    Thanks for the post!

it was hard to narrow it down to just three; keen has such good footwear. that said, i found myself migrating repeatedly back to the WASATCH CREST WP for my trail running, the TARGHEE II MID for my weekend hikes, and the NEWPORT H2 for my sea kayaking and other watersports.

my only regret is that their special on shipping, through Adventure Journalist, only runs through the 13th. having just bought airline tickets back east for christmas i’m strapped for cash this pay period which is too bad; that’s a great deal. i might’ve exercised it next paycheck.

oh well, maybe i’ll be lucky enough to win a pair of TARGHEE II MIDs. that’d definitely turn this frown upside down. :)

  15. Morgan Loven on December 6th, 2008

Not tough at all. Ventura Suede right away and all the way. In the “Pinecone” color they’d make my feet look like adorable little marmots.

I have two pairs of Keens – a pair of sandals I wear all the time, even in winter, and a pair of purple MJs I wear when I want to wear purple. You know that thing about being stranded on a desert island, and what you would bring… I would bring my Keens. Since I have sandals and MJs, my website fave has to be the Winthrop boot.

I walk everywhere – and I trek everywhere else. I love that Winthrop Boot in Bison. And I think the site is great. I already own two pair of Keens – but that’s not enough! Not near enough, so let’s hope I pull the lucky number here.

Choose just one? That’s hard when I know every shoe on that site is comfortable. After much consideration (I nearly resorted to a coin-flip) I have decided that the Charleston Mary Jane in Rust BARELY edges out the Calistoga in Rum Raisin to take the winning spot as my favorite. I’m spending next summer without a car in a big city, so I need shoes I can walk miles in but also wear to work. I’ve also never met a Mary Jane I didn’t like.

  19. Bruce on December 7th, 2008

The lower Sonoran Desert doesn’t demand much cold weather protection or waterproofing, so I think I’d try the ventilated Voyageur Mid. I haven’t done as much hiking as I’d like this year, I’m hoping next spring will allow me some time for it.

My 3 yr old granddaughter (an up and coming snow bunny) would love the baroque rose Winterports. She is, after all, the princess of all things pink.

My pick would be the women’s trailhead Wasatch Crest in sagey.

    Thanks for the contest, Tee!

I bought my first pair of Keen’s – men’s sandels actually – before a trip to Australia and have been wearing them every single day since. I think I might need another pair! :D I love the Charleston Mary Jane’s (Style 5383) in RUST. Then maybe I’d actually wear a skirt or dress!

  23. Diane Johnston on December 7th, 2008

I would love a pair of Wear Around Laces, not least because the color is Potting Soil! I must say the Keen people are keen marketers, given their engaging choice of color names. Color aside, the Wear Around Laces would make me a year-around Keen convert, complementing my fair-weather Newport H2s.

How cool is this! I had heard of Keen but hadn’t visited the web site until you prompted me to. I think the Berkleys are great. I rarely wear a closed up heel and so clogs have been my choice for years but then that doesn’t let me indulge in my love for Mary Janes. Perfect mingling! Thanks for the chance, a fellow New Mexican!

ooooh! the black stockholm boot is calling me! Winters here in Santiago are miserable, and it’s often colder inside than out. They would spiff up my winter shoe situation and perk up my days.

Thanks for hosting the giveaway, and I do hope I’m lucky number whichever!

This is a tough one. I would love a pair of shoes that make me look decent around the office, but so much of what I do puts me out in the less-crowded parts of Nevada. For that reason (and that I also struggle every trip with what to bring for shoes) I would have to go with the Targhee II Mid. It looks like it could easily handle what I do and offers a good around town kind of thing for the winter months.

What a great way to get the Keen name out there! I have to admit that I have never even heard of Keen. (does that give it away that I’m one of those “armchair warriors?”)

I sure could have used a pair last night while walking all around downtown Denver trying to find a place to eat, after the Parade of Lights, that didn’t have a 2 hour wait! My feet and legs were killing me by time we got back to our hotel room.

My choice: Oregon PCT Womans size 8.5

i have a battered pair of Newport H2s i’ll have to replace this coming summer, a pair of Stockholm boots acquired for DC winters, and a pair of Mary Janes bought for a trip 5 years ago that walked all over Europe and back. Keens are my go to shoes!

Having suffered from plantar fasciitis for the past 9 months, I have appreciated wearing my Keens around the house almost like slippers. My feet are so happy when I put them on. Just thinking about it makes my toes wiggle and my arch tingle. Although there are so many styles I like, the Calistoga would be the one for me right now.

My favourite is the Wasatch Crest WP, because good non-leather shoes are difficult to find, and I like the colours on it.

  58. Bethany on December 8th, 2008
    58

I’m torn between the Palermo maryjane and the Winterport, but the Winterport wins. It fills the gap in my shoe collection between “heavy-duty winter boot” and “cute winter shoes that I wouldn’t wear in the snow”. I love the idea of having a non-bulky slip-on shoe that handle a walk in snow or on ice. And I love the color choices.

My daughters would love the Amsterdam in Black Plum…they’d look good with the dresses they like to wear, but can actually endure the playground. I’d want the black Sienna Ballerina because I could happily schlep all over campus or downtown without getting blisters from my “work” shoes. :) Thanks for the contest!

  65. Kim on December 8th, 2008

I would definitely pick the Cordovan Winthrop boots. I’ve gone without winter boots (in Massachusetts!) for many years, cause I find most of them really ugly. But those look both warm and attractive.

Oh Wow. What a coquinkidink! We were just at the store trying on Keens and I found a great winter boot that I am going to go back and get.

I have owned a pair of Newport H2s for about five years now and Keen has been awesome enough to send me new laces when my newfie puppy chewed them up.

the Oregon PCT is my pick, since that’s they kind of hiking boot I’ve been looking for.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of KEEN before, but from what I saw on the website (and read from the enthusiastic comments here), I’ve been missing out!
It was a tough decision to pick just one pair, but I finally went with my first pick, which is the San Antonio Boot in Bison. Looks like something that’s easy to put on and take off in a hurry, which I need for my current job. Thanks for offering this contest!

    78

I’m with the A.J. on this one: those Palermo Boots are the way to go, *especially* since its been raining here for about a week straight! That KEEN.DRY business is looking rather perfect. Also how can you not love something that looks sleek and at the same time is as easier to lace than kid’s velcro?

  79. Carolyn on December 9th, 2008
    79

It seems that the Palermo boots are a clear winner, as I have to vote for them too. The full day of rain may be biasing the results, but my feet are damp at the moment, and had I these boots today, this would not be the case.

This Brit had never heard of “Keens” but one glance at the website was enough for me to see that they are well-made, anatomically constructed, pretty colours, well-priced, robust and desirable. And it is a caring company. Love the ruby red Vail and especially the black leather Winthrop, just what I need for the winter months on top of the Yorkshire moors. Count me in !

  82. Cheryl on December 10th, 2008

I love the Keens I already own. Wore the Calistogas almost every day on a month long trip to Europe. I also love the colors that Keens offers to make its shoes more fun!

I debated between many for the one I am going to to win >> detect optimism here <<, got it down to two: the Winthrop Boot (for fun) and the Mystic (for everyday wear). Have to go with the Mystic as I am just a practical sole…

  84. Rinee Merritt on December 10th, 2008
    84

I love my keens. Id love a new pair even more. They are all COOL but I guess if I have to pick Id pick the reddish Winthrop boots.

PS did you know keens are a great conversation starter? Try it. Just go up to a person wearing keens and say “psst I love your keens”-and watch the smile on their face light up. Ive even had people come up to me months later and say-”Hey I know you-you’re the person who loved my keens…I have a new pair and….”

It has to be the Yogui slip on, the graphite design. This summer I helped take a group canoeing in the Lake District, UK. When two of our group capsized I got my walking boots soaked pulling them out of the water. With these I could act the hero with no worries. Beautiful!

Ah, timely. My original Bostons are finally wearing out. Love to have a new pair, but those Oregon PCTs would work well for my upcoming photo endeavors in the Sangres. Count me in!

shout out and thanks to michelle for putting me on to your awesome blog and contest!
I looked at all of the women’s styles, thinking it would be a difficult decision, but I was immediately sold on the Oregon PCT. I recently had a pair of all leather hiking boots that I tought would last a lifetime totally disintegrate on me after just a couple of years. This finally brought me to the realization that maybe I demand a lot from my footwear. Those clever folks at Keen have thought of everything. They even managed to use the words interlocking, explore, natural, and eco-friendly in their description. A sure way to catch the eye of suckers like me. I’d love to give this pair a try. They just look killer! My big rant with my old boots (before they fell apart) was that the women’s style did not have the protective rubber up over the tip of the toe and the men’s version did! Is anyone else outraged? Thank you Keen for making a boot that looks like it can keep up with a woman!

I’ve been longing for the Black Winthrop boots! They are amazing. My feet would really appreciate them. Keens are usually out of my price range. Maybe this will be my lucky day! :>) Thanks for the contest.

Seriously? You send us to the Keen website and expect us to choose JUST ONE? Impossible! I’m in serious of need of the wasatch crest wp…and in less need, but certainly in love with the Palermo boot and the wear around.

Keens really are the BEST shoe ever! In case anyone needed to know…

I love the Timberlines-I’ve been looking for comfy non-leather easy wear shoes, and they look perfect.

I could use some good snow boots. The Summit County boots are my favorites. I love that they have extra insulation in the toe area. Ever since I frostbit my toes as a teenager, they tend to get numb & turn white quickly. I also loved the tread on these boots. They sound like they’d be perfect for tromping around in the snow.

Going from couch potato to someone trying to get back in shape my current boots are are where close to meeting my current needs. A pair of Oregon PCT would meet those needs nicely.

I was looking at some Keens last week at Cabela’s, and thinking that they were some nicely made shoes. I am having a hard time deciding between the Shay’s Boots and the Wear Around Lace. Both fit my style.
Read your blog all the time.
    thanks!

Did you see the Brooklyn Mids? They’re all Keen-y with their rubberized toe, so everyone will know I have excellent taste in footwear.

Plus, they’re boots. That means they’ll keep my ankles warm in the coming insane Midwestern winter *and* no one will be able to discern that I can never find a matching pair of socks.

They’re also waterproof, which allows me to:
    1) Shovel snow in the mornings before work without a shoe change.
    2) Wade through the laundry room while we’re teaching my oldest daughter how to clean her soccer uniforms without needing to gather two of every animal before she pushes the “wash” button.
    3) Hang out with these dreaded sheepdogs and their incessant licking and drooling.
    4) Hike the trails in our backyard with my kids on weekends to remind them there are many more things in this world more enjoyable than the controller of an XBox 360.

My comment is about a pair of Keen’s, the Targhee II pair, to be specific. These shoes are the greatest shoes ever to be manufactured in the history of manufactured shoes. No really. I’d sell my soul for a pair of these. Maybe that’s what I’m doing right now…?

    Only time will tell.

Was going to go fo the Winterport, given the weather here. But I would much rather dream of summer, so the Venice it is!

Dark Shadow/Warm Olive Wasatch. Mmm…good enough to eat. Love my Commuters – crazy comfortable, but need the full shoe for wet weather.
